Missing bin
Reported in the Street Cleansing category anonymously at 16:22, Fri 18 January 2019
Sent to Bromley Council 3 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1516833.
Why has the bin on York rise disappeared .it was useful for coming out of the station and putting rubbish in on way home. If this has been removed permantly then it's a backward step as people will just drop the rubbish on the street . You keep saying use bins to put rubbish in. How can we do this if you keep taking them away. Orpington seams to keep losing bins . Not long ago we lost the one in the alley above York rise. And various ones have disappeared along crofton road. Just stop doing it.

Many thanks for your enquiry, Bromley Council have removed this litter bin for a trial period of three months with the location being monitored during this time to see if this action has any detrimental affect on the area. The reason for this action is because somebody is using this bin as an extension to their own household refuse and placing multiple carry bags full of refuse in and around this bin. These types of litter bins are not for this use and these actions attract more fly tipping and the problem escalates. The schedule to empty this bin is once per week and due to the on-going problems with the bin becoming full outside of this time, the frequency was increased to three times per week and still the bin was being abused, because of this we're left with no other option other then to remove the bin and monitor the area and at this stage the bin will not be returning. Kind regards, JPR - 21/01/2019

I understand where you are coming from and yes people do fly tip but these people will just fly tip else where. The problem now remains thou if you walk up crofton road,up the hill on the right hand side there is no bin now to put any rubbish in before you get to crofton. There is only one bin left in this area at the bus stop on opposite side of the road. What happens if the fly tippers now use that. Do you then take that away and leave passengers coming out of Orpington station going towards crofton with nothing??

Many thanks for your additional comments, as I've stated above the area will be monitored to see if our actions have had a detrimental affect on the area with any additional fly tipping. It's unfortunate that some people abuse these litter bins and prevent others from using them, if commuters have litter to discard after coming off the train they can either use the train stations litter bins or take their rubbish home with them. Many thanks, JPR - 22/01/2019
