Why do councils put up such trees! All they do is cause problems in the years to come!
As the tree gets older...Lifting tarmac/or stone flagging. Tree branches causing eye injury. Leaves dropped everywhere in Autumn, slip hazard. Branches growing out into the road, causing damage to passing vehicles. Councils never cut back such trees, thus growing into a right mess.
Trees have a place on this Earth like in big green areas or replacing old dead trees with new ones, but why on earth would it be a smart idea to plant them on a kerb.

Street trees are an essential element of the street scene, delivering important ecological benfits to the urban environment where they needed the most. Benefits include improving air quality by the production of clean oxygen and the removal of pollution particulates from the air, as well as whole host of other benefits including improved human health and well-being, temperature reduction in hot periods through the provision of shade, provision of important habitats for birds, fungi, insects and other species that would otherwise be unable to exist in the urban environment, as well as adding to the aesthetic/amenity value of the street scene and even increasing properties values. All of our trees are inspected every three years by qualified Tree Inspectors to ensure that they are kept in the safest possible condition. We also respond to issues raised through Fix My Street and carry out any necessary works to prune dangerous branches and fell dead or dangerous trees when required.
