STILL FLOODING: 16 Westmoreland Road Flooding (22 May 2021)

Reported via desktop in the Road and Pavement Issues category anonymously at 11:52, Monday 24 May 2021

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later

STILL FLOODING: 16 Westmoreland Road Flooding (22 May 2021) The road at 16 Westmoreland Road is still flooding, despite it being reported in June 2019. The last reply from the Council about this issue said that the system was unable to drain properly, yet this is untrue. A very short period of heavy rain on Saturday (less then 30 minutes) again flooded the road and pavement at the drain in front of 16 Westmoreland Road. But the drain directly across the street completely drained without flooding. This cannot be accurate if the drain only a few metres away, drained immediately with not even a small puddle.

According to the Highway drainage systems notice from - Kent County Council, "If a blocked drain or flooding on a road is causing you concern, report it to us. We don't look after public sewers or fresh water pipes. If sewerage or a water leak is causing a problem on the road or pavement you should report the fault to the appropriate water company." This would be Bromley Council, yet despite reporting the issue, this drain continues to flood. This is a MAJOR ISSUE that needs serious investigation before our homes at and around 16 Westmoreland Road are flooded and our property destroyed in a severe weather storm that lasts more than 30 minutes.

  • Monday 24th of May 2021. In less than 5 minutes today, the 2 photos show the street drain blocked with bubbles coming out of the drain and the drain across the street not blocked with no excess of water or flooding.

  • Referencei 2745488 June 18th 2021 Again, heavy rains caused almost immediate road flooding due to faulty drainage on our side of Westmorland Road. The matter is allegedly being addressed, yet I see no progress whatsoever and feel that you are ignoring the severity of the issue. I am attaching another photo documenting flooding from the blocked drain, which spilled onto the pavement within minutes. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECTIFIED IMMEDIATELY before serious property damage is caused. Please respond and tell me exactly HOW and WHEN you will fix this serious issue. Thank you.

  • July 28 2021 18 Westmoreland Road and Aylesbury Road Flooding.

This serious issue of blocked drains is still unresolved after over a year of having been reported. I feel that the council is not taking this issue seriously, and all it will take is the recent flash flooding in London over the last two weekends, to result in extensive and expensive property damage to my house and others on this stretch of Westmoreland Road. As the council is responsible for the drains, the council will be responsible for any damage caused.

In addition to the drain outside 18 Westmoreland Road, there is an urgent need for a drain on Aylesbury Road, which I reported in June 2019.

  • Westmoreland Road Aug 7 2021 3 minutes of rain as shown in the photos above. Today Saturday 7th Aug 2021 at 11:19 we had a very hard rain in a very short time. In less than 3 minutes this one drain only stopped draining. This is a very serious problem that needs to be corrected. This ongoing issue has not been properly considered by Bromley council for over a year now! When will this major issue be rectified before we have our property damage? This flooding that has been going on for over a year now with no response from the council which could have been prevented!

  • Further to an emergency attendance for the gully outside number 18 Westmoreland Road to be cleaned and investigated the gully has been found to drain but slower than it should. It is believed that there is a problem with the Thames Water Public Surface Water Sewer causing this issue and Bromley have liaised with Thames Water to highlight the issues here and the need for their timely attendance. We are closing this FixMyStreet report but please can any further issues here be logged as a new report to ensure a prompt response and avoid confusion in our system with previous jobs and attendance here.
