Closure of Cudham Lane North
Reported via mobile in the Road, Pavement and PROW Issues category by John Basham at 17:02, Sat 23 October 2021
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3080174.
I have been notified that Cudham lane North is to be closed between 9 am and 4pm from Tuesday 26th October for up to 3weeks. How can this be allowed? I live just off Cudham lane North and this means that if my wife or myself need to get anywhere North of here i.e. Orpington ,Bromley, Bexleyheath etc. we have to take a long diversion which means longer time and obviously a lot more petrol which means more expense. I've lived here 30 years and never known so many closures and definitely not 3 weeks. What's wrong with a traffic light system as they had a few weeks ago on Cudham lane South. I would appreciate a reply to my questions soon. Regards John Basham

Thank you for your enquiry. We can confirm that the works being carried out at this location are to improve the drainage along Cudham Lane North, unfortunately due to the width of the road at this location it wouldn't be safe to carry out the works under two way signals. We just wanted to confirm that the works will be carried out off peak and should mean the road is opened from 15:00 each day. We are sorry for any inconvenience this work may cause and we will endeavour to keep disruption to a minimum.

I too am a resident of Cudham Lane North and I find the constant and random road closures very inconsiderate to local residents. Cudham lane north is approx 3 miles long. When the road is closed signs are placed at each end of the road but there is no information on exactly where the road is closed so residents can never be sure if they can access their property from either end of the lane. I agree a traffic light system would be more considerate as often there is no safety issue. There could also be a speed restriction on the area where the works are being carried out in order to ensure worker safety (as they have on motorways). At the very least I think the signs should be more informative than the current "ROAD CLOSED" signs. Many residents on Cudham lane have Oil heating which needs regular topping up. It is impossible to plan Heating oil deliveries with these inconsiderate road closures.
