Pavement & kerb line dangerous
Reported via desktop in the Road, Pavement and PROW Issues category anonymously at 11:05, Mon 15 November 2021
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3124165.
The area between Stanmore Terrace and Beckenham High Street has just been re-laid with new and wider paving, to include planters and a flower bed. While the work was going on large amounts of rubble were dug up and stored in the gutter and edge of pavement outside 4 Kelsey Park Road and up against a tree. The rubble was removed from time to time by a large grabber on a big lorry and the grabber often bashed against the kerb stones as it was dropped. I am sure it also bashed the tree as the lifting area was very tight. Anyhow, due to the weight of the rubble the kerb stones have been lifted and misaligned. Also the pavement adjacent to the kerb stones has been severely damaged and is heaving dangerously. The tree has also been damaged at the bottom and looks very unstable. Footfall in this area is now dodgy and the heaved pavements is being struck by car doors when they open them upon parking. Can the council arrange for an urgent inspection please and contact me to discuss it.

It's a pity that the council inspector did not contact me on site as I requested. This is not just tree root damage. You can easily see deep gouges in the road tarmac where the mechanical grabber damaged the road in lifting the huge piles of rubble. There are also deep scratches and damage to the pavement surface from the grabber bucket. The bucket also whacked the kerb stones a few times, raising and moving them

Why has this been closed with no further explanation? The pavement and kerbs are still heaving and in a dangerous condition. The only "repair" that has happened is that someone came along with a broom and swept the dirt off the raised sections. Car doors still bang against the raised pavement and mis-aligned kerbs.

A work gang turned today (29/03/2022) with a tip up truck and a digger. They closed the road section off with cones. THEY DID ABSOULUTELY NO REPAIR WORK TO THE KERB LINE OR TO THE DANGEROUS UPLIFTED PAVEMENT. All they did was to sweep the gutter and lay down some cement dust. This problem is not fixed and remains as bad as when I first reported it 4 months ago. Come and see for yourself.
