Reported via desktop in the Parks and Greenspace category by Steve Barnes at 16:59, Wed 12 January 2022

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later

Moderated by Bromley Council at 17:12, Wed 12 January 2022

I have been reporting the poor state of these benches on the green in the middle of Downe village for some time (via [officer] at Bromley Council). They need replacing. To date no action has been taken. Today, a visitor sat on one bench and was nearly injured. The benches need to be CONDEMNED and replaced ASAP. They are a DANGER TO THE PUBLIC

  • It is probably about a YEAR since I first drew Bromley Councils attention to these public benches. They are is desperate need of replacement - and - as previously reported - one is dangerous and has collapsed. Despite updates - and e-mails from the Officer concerned NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ! Please give me a date when they will be replaced - the next communication from me will be to Council Leader Colin Smith !!!

  • To see the dilapidated bench picture. We put hazard tape around the bench, as it had collapsed when a visitor sat on it. People have removed the tape and are still attempting to sit on it. The Council will need to prepare for an injury claim - you cannot say you were not warned !

  • Please note this problem has not been fixed. See photo (yesterday) - the benches have not been replaced, so the report cannot be closed. How many times do I have to remind you the report cannot be closed until remedial action is complete ? Also, please advise on what style the replacement benches will be - this is a Conservation area, so the style and materials are important to the community.

  • The Council are to be congratulated on the quality and style of the bench now installed on the green in Downe village. HOWEVER, two benches were removed, and only one bench has been installed. Have you a date for the installation of the other bench ?
