Tree obstruction
Reported via mobile in the Public Trees category anonymously at 09:25, Sat 22 January 2022
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3258388.
Hello,
There was a tree on the public pavement outside our house which fell last year due to high winds. The council have done a great job of cleaning up the fallen tree and helped with repairs to our cars caused due to the falling tree. Can we please request the council to avoid planting a replacement tree and instead cover the pavement gap from the previous tree. The location of a tree right in the middle of the entrance to our house causes a major hazard while parking our vehicle. I sincerely hope you will agree with our request.
Regards Haresh Nandwani

Thanks for your call last week explaining reasons for declining our request. I believe the tree location is a major safety hazard as was demonstrated by it collapsing on our cars. The last incident was quite traumatic for us as we had jut exited our vehicles before the tree crashed. We are very supportive of planting a replacement tree but we genuinely believe replanting a tree in the same location as previously is a health and safety issue. Look forward to your response

The location of the tree pit has been inspected by the Tree Officer and poses no Health & Safety concerns. A replacement tree for the empty tree pit will be carefully selected using the criteria of "Right tree for right location". Street trees are an essential element of the street scene, delivering important ecological benefits the urban environment where they needed the most. Benefits include improving air quality by the production of clean oxygen and the removal of pollution particulates from the air, as well as whole host of other benefits including improved human health and well-being, temperature reduction in hot periods through the provision of shade, provision of important habitats for birds, fungi, insects and other species that would otherwise be unable to exist in the urban environment, as well as adding to the aesthetic/amenity value of the street scene and even increasing properties values. All of our trees are inspected every three years by qualified Tree Inspectors to ensure that they are kept in the safest possible condition. We also respond to issues raised through Fix My Street and carry out any necessary works to prune dangerous branches and fell dead or dangerous trees when required.
