Unathorised Addition Road Works

Reported via desktop in the Obstruction to Highway category anonymously at 11:41, Mon 13 June 2022

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3591747.

HI, Thames Water have now established temporary traffic lights on the Hayes LanE as indicated. The original works which caused chaos to this road and surrounding roads was scheduled to last 5 months. It was continuously extended in the end running for 7 months! They have now come back and put up temporary road signals again. Thames water do NOT respond to any questions or queries about their work. Would you please investigate and advise what has gone wrong and why it is necessary to dig up the road again. I re-iterate these works have boon ongoing for 7 months and a main road causing massive traffic issues. I would also add that during their previous 7 months of works the temporary lights failed on at least 14 different occasions.

  • Thank you for your enquiry.

Thames Water will be working for approx two weeks in Hayes Lane from Monday 13/06.

This is related to the recent water main replacement works and this stage of the works are to complete the final cut/cap/disconnection of the old water main. There has to be a time period before this can be done once the main has been replaced as Thames Water need to ensure that all residents have been transferred onto the new water main before the old main is capped.

Thames Water have advised that temporary four way signals will be in place at the Hayes Lane / Shortlands Road / Scotts Lane junction for one week, before they move along Hayes Lane, reducing to two way temporary signals to complete the rest of the works.
