  • This area concerned is the pavement through and alongside the shrubbery , not the Tesco Car Park. Where does Bromley Council's responsibility finish and Tesco's begin? If it is a main public throughfare that is affected, then surely it is for Bromley Council to resolve or, at least, liaise with Tesco to resolve and not simply to pass the buck and deny responsibility.

  • Very Many Thanks for taking action, but the job is only half done. Most of the litter has been removed from the pathway, but seems to have been redistributed into the shrubbery. Either that, or no one has taken responsibility for ensuring that the shrubbery has also been cleared and the black plastic sacks and 'rubbish' which has accumulated over time removed. Please, Tesco and Bromley Council, act together on this and ensure that the area remains clean and clear. Thank You.

  • Rubbish! There is still a serious amount of 'garbage', black sacks, paper, tin cans, etc scattered amongst the shrubbery, so whoever has reported that the additional works have been completed is sadly mistaken. The 'additional work' remains to be done.

  • Good day, While the footpaths through this area are subject to street cleansing by Bromley Council, the vegetation at this corner all falls under the ownership and responsibility of the adjacent Tesco store and its they who are responsible for the clearance of litter within the hedges and undergrowth there. We have raised this ongoing issue with them and our crews will continue to remove what is within our area of responsibility.

    State changed to: Closed

  • So, let me get this straight. The footpaths are Bromley Council's responsibility, but anything that may attract vermin, resulting in a possible health hazard, into the London Borough of Bromleyl is not within Bromley Council's remit? Surely it is your responsibility to maintain an ongoing dialogue with the Tesco Elmers End to ensure that they actually maintain the shrubbery and to ensure that is is kept free of discarded food, bottles, cans, paper, clothes, nappies, plastic and all garbage and, also, to ensure that they actually do so, when your crews undertake their duties within their area of responsibility?

Posted anonymously at 09:28, Monday 11 July 2022

  • As outlined above the area in question falls under the responsibility of Tesco’s. We will continue to liaise with the Tesco store to remind them of their responsibilities here. This report will now be closed.

  • Thank you for using FixMyStreet to report your concerns to Bromley.

State changed to: No further action

Posted by Bromley Council at 13:54, Monday 11 July 2022

  • Surely that matter does not simply 'close' by the London Borough of Bromley 'reminding' Tesco of their responsibilities, but continues until the London Borough of Bromley is confident that the site has been cleared of debris, continues to be cleared as and when required, and that the potential health hazard in attracting vermin to to an area used by local residents to has been minimized.

  • As the issue concerns rubbish on an area which is not public highway or is regarding pest control this report has been passed to Environmental Health to investigate and is now closed on FixMyStreet. For information, enforcement action against rubbish will be taken depending on the nature of the accumulation. Bromley Council only have powers to enforce the removal of rubbish which contains material that could attract pests or pose a risk to public health.

  • I knew that it would be too good to last. This morning there was rubbish, paper, plastic, bottles, cans, nappies scattered all over the walkway and the shrubbery. Time for another tidy up, please.
