Silver birch tree
Reported via mobile in the Tree Planting Request category anonymously at 09:56, Thu 23 June 2022
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3617356.
Under the new tree planting scheme we have had a silver birch tree planted right outside our house. We fully support the tree planting scheme and think it's a fantastic initiative. However both myself and my 2 children are highly allergic to silver birch tree pollen. Silver Birch is known for its pollen allergy issues. Would it be possible to replace this tree with a different type? I appreciate our allergies are not the councils problem but when we bought our house there was not a tree right outside which we know we are highly allergic to.

If you read my report you would see that I did not suggest the tree required works. I don't believe anyone has been out to inspect the tree either. The tree is having a serious impact on my families health since it has been planted (and pollen season began). The tree is on council property but is having a detrimental effect on our health. We are happy to cover the cost for the tree being replaced. But obviously need council permission for this.

Thank you for your comments. A site visit has been undertaken for the enquiry. No action is to be taken regarding the reported tree, please note that as outlined in our Tree Management Strategy (https://www.bromley.gov.uk/ downloads/ file/ 3334/ tree_management_strategy_2016-2020) the Council will not prune trees in relation to the following
• Problems associated with pollen.
This is something that happens over a relatively short period during the course of a year and any temporary inconvenience has to be balanced against the benefits the trees bring to an urban environment.
