Old bollards which had lights make footpath unusable

Reported via mobile in the Bollard Not Working/Damaged category anonymously at 15:14, Friday 22 July 2022

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later

There are 5 old light bollards set into the public footpath leading into the Biggin Hill Recreation ground off Church lane beside the McCarthy and Stone Victory House boundary fence. They restrict the width of the footpath so a mobility walker can not be used forcing user into the roadway accessing the park car park. This is a dangerous issues to elderly and young mothers with push chairs / prams. Bollards need to be removed to make access possible on the footpath with walking aids.

  • I used the footpath which is restricted by the bollards on Friday 4th November and the bollards are still there. This surprised me as the reported issue is shown as closed. It may be that work is planned to remove the bollards but it has not been done yet. I would prefer the reported safety concern to be left open until the work to remove the bollards has successfully been completed.

  • Removal of these long-redundant lighting bollards is a safety issue. Please don't leave it until there is an accident. Having to walk in the road to accommodate a wheelchair, walking aid, or baby buggy is already dangerous but if you factor in today's quieter vehicles, the danger level rises appreciably - especially for the hearing-impaired. This issue has been on the table for nearly four years. It's about time it was fixed, isn't it?

  • Thank you for your additional comments. I can confirm that the bollards are awaiting removal by our lighting contractors, who are currently carrying out investigations into the connections and supply. Once all investigations are completed the lit bollards will be removed.
