Operation moorhen
Reported via mobile in the Request for Park Infrastructure category anonymously at 11:54, Fri 5 August 2022
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3732850.
The pond in Churchill Gardens is so empty and full of discarded buckets, wheels etc that wildlife and in particular the moorhens and ducks haven’t got enough water to survive this drought. I know the ducks can probably fly off to pastures new but the moorhen has a little chick and I fear the little family will perish or be eaten by the foxes. Can the moorhens be moved to another home? Please help

The weather conditions we are currently experiencing are extreme and in turn, is having a knock-on effect across the borough and the southeast of England. With the announcement from the Met Office, it is the driest January to June period since 1976 and so our streams and ponds are running dry. That said, waterfowl will naturally move to the nearest source of water and the brown grass will soon become green again when the rain returns.
LBB’s Parks and Greenspaces contractor Idverde, cleared dumped rubbish in the upper lake at Church House Gardens (10th August), they spent 2 ½ hours and took away a scooter, shopping trolley, umbrellas, bottles, cans, tree branches and more debris.
Thank you for your report. NM. 11.08.2022.
