A beautiful healthy well established cherry tree outside 246 crescent drive petts wood was removed yesterday. It just needed pruning and now the street scene has been altered for the worse. The trees are a long term feature of crescent drive. Please replace this ttee with a similar, spring flowering specimen an explaination why the other tree was removed would be appreciated.

Thank you for your enquiry. The Prunus 'Karzan' was sadly colonised with wood decay pathogens which do not affect the vitality or vigour. Historically the tree was strimmer damaged and it is thought that the poorly occluded wounds led to the tree being colonised with Kretzschmaria and Ganoderma. The significance of Kretzschmaria is that it degrades (rots) the roots underneath the ground affecting the stability of the tree leading to failure. At the time of inspection, there was insufficient residual wall remaining in the stem and with targets present in the event of failure, the tree had to be removed on the grounds of health and . A replacement is on the planting schedule and in hand to be planted by the end of the season. It is not possible to give an exact time frame given that 1,500 trees are being planted this season by teams working ward by ward.
