Empty tree pit between 98-100 Kings Hall Road
Reported via mobile in the Tree Planting Request category anonymously at 10:36, Sun 2 April 2023
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4387967.
I was advised that this tree pit would be filled as part of this years planing programme. Some new trees have been planted on our road but this tree pit remains empty. Please confirm a tree will be planted before then end of planting season.

I don’t understand why I am now being told it had been added to the database for future consideration, in February I was told a tree would be planted here before the end of this years planting season.

Thank you for your update. We are planting around 1500 trees across the Borough before the current planting season ends. We're doing our best to fill every available location in the Borough. Some of the trees and locations had to be moved around to backup lists and to next year's planting schedule where appropriate species have not been available for specific locations. There are however 5 trees due to be planted on this road before the current planting season ends in April/May 2023. Any other locations will either be planted towards the end of the planting season, or during next year's planting season.

I have been reporting this issue for 2 years and no action has been taken. I get contradictory updates. It is unclear to me how planting locations are decided and why trees have been planted in areas which already have some but not in areas with large gaps.

Please can you confirm how many of the 5 trees have already been planted, if this tree pit is one of the sites due to have a tree planted and if so when it will be planted?
This was a very straightforward request but the responses have been incredibly unclear. When you say the current tree planting season will end in April/May, what does that mean, has it ended already or will it end on 31 May? How can it be this complicated to get a tree planted?

The current planting schedule has now concluded. Any locations that still require trees will be placed on the next planting schedule and those trees will be planted between November 2023 and April 2024.

I don't understand why I was told that this site would be planted this year and am now being told it will not. "Thank you for your enquiry. This location is one of five, on Kings Hall Road that is on the current planting schedule, new trees will be planted here before the planting season ends in April 2023.

This was the response I received in February about this tree pit, see reference 4251175. Why am I now being told that this tree pit will not be planted, have fewer trees been planted than planned, or are trees not actually planted in planned tree pits but randomly anywhere on the road. I cannot see the logic in where planting takes place and where it does not, some of the new trees are planted very close to old trees, whereas we are left with a large gap. Please explain.

We were unable to plant here due to a lack of availability of suitable species for this location.

There is zero accountability or transparency around issues logged via fix my street. I have been told multiple times that a tree would be planted here this year. Other trees were planted in the street, but not in this spot. The explanation provided doesn’t actually explain anything. I think the trees are planted randomly and not where they were supposed to be planted and Bromley council doesn’t know what is going on. This is quite a minor issue yet I still get contradictory information every time I ask, it’s no wonder other more serious matters are such a mess.

This problem has not been fixed, you remain totally unaccountable and the information I have been provided with is incorrect. It remains unclear to me how there were trees available for the other planting spots but not the right kind for outside my house, do you need a very special tree for this tree pit? This issue remains open as the tree pit remains empty.

We have planted over 1500 trees around the Borough during the recent planting season. There are more locations to plant trees in, than there are trees to plant, so naturally some locations could not be allocated trees. Different locations require different species of tree, we only had a limited number of species available, so some locations could not be allocated species that would be appropriate for the location, this is one such location. Planting 1500 trees in one planting season is an enormous achievement and one that we have been working incredibly hard to achieve. We are sorry that you are unhappy with the outcome of this one location, but the overall project to plant 5000 trees is on track, and this location will receive a tree during the next planting season. If you remain unsatisfied, please feel free to submit a formal complaint on the Council's website (here: https://www.bromley.gov.uk/ ComplaintComplimentSuggestionForm). This thread will now be closed.
