Rubbish by bus stop CA (between 117-119 Crofton Rd)
Reported via desktop in the Public Litter Bin category anonymously at 15:37, Tue 3 October 2023
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5057563.
Please could a rubbish bin be reinstated at this bus stop as I continually have to pick up discarded cans, bottles (often broken with sharp glass strewn across the pavement) fast food wrappers, gas canisters & cigarette butts. A few years ago the bin was removed, presumably because black bags of household rubbish was being fly tipped into it but judging by the volume of rubbish I am forced to clear up; it really now needs to be reinstated. Many very young children pass by to the nearby Little Elms Nursery plus numerous schoolchildren, so it is in the general public's interest to walk past without fear of injury from discarded rubbish.

Thank you for your report.
Any installation of new and additional bins is only undertaken after a period of monitoring to determine the benefit against the additional costs of ongoing emptying. The location will continue to be monitored but at this time Bromley council do not currently have plans to install a bin at this location.

I cannot understand your reluctance to provide a bin at this busy bus stop. This bus stop serves 4 bus routes (61, 208, 353 & R2) and is also a stopping point for private school buses. Passengers and school children will often change buses at this stop. In addition, many people walk past this stop en route to Orpington Station or to Little Elms Nursery on the corner. It's becoming increasingly often that I have to pick up broken bottles, cans, aerosol pellets, cigarette packets, fruit skins, fast food wrappers and newspapers. It is not fair to me, my neighbours or anyone walking past the bus stop to walk through filth. Lastly, as I walk around it seems to me as though this is the only bus stop on the main road without a bin. Why is that?

Thank you for your enquiry.
Please allow some time for us to carry out service monitoring to this area. The bin that was installed here previously may have been asked to be removed by the resident who lives directly opposite the bus stop due to fly tipping and misuse of the bin which happens regularly.
