Empty tree pit to be filled in

Reported via mobile in the Pavement Defect category anonymously at 15:31, Sun 3 March 2024

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5661368.

On 8 January 2024 I was advised that the Highways Department would be asked to fill in the empty tree pit in front of 65 Groveland Road. An update on progress would be appreciated.

  • May I urgently refer you to the report under FixMyStreet reference 5369293 and the subsequent decision to refer this matter to the Highwsys Department to fill in the empty tree pit. The elderly owner-occupier of 65 Groveland Road will be caused a great deal of anxiety and distress in the event that another tree is planted in this location. Previously I have been advised that the empty tree pit in front of 65 Groveland Road is not on any tree planting list, so this latest statement is contradictory and most likely erroneous.

  • I see that there is now a stake in the empty tree pit in front of 65 Groveland Road and once again urgently refer you to the report under FixMyStreet reference 5369293 and the subsequent decision to refer this matter to the Highways Department to fill in the empty tree pit. The elderly owner-occupier of 65 Groveland Road is already disquieted by the addition of the stake to the empty tree pit,

  • The tree stake is to show a available tree pit to the planting crew, they will be round to plant a new tree in due course.

  • I was previously advised that this empty tree pit was not on any planting lists and that the matter would be referred to the Highways Department for the empty tree pit to be filled in. What has changed? The elderly owner-occupier of 65 Groveland Road is already disquieted by the addition of the stake to the empty tree pit and will become very anxious and distressed in the event that a tree is planted, owing to the subsidence caused to her property by the previous tree, which the council had to prune annually until it was eventually felled. She is still having to pay extremely high buildings insurance premiums due to the previous subsidence and is extremely worried by the prospect of another tree in this location. Please reconsider this inexplicable reversal of the earlier decision to fill in the empty tree pit.

  • Please reconsider this inexplicable reversal of the earlier decision to fill in the empty tree pit for the reasons given in the report under fixmystreet reference 5369293 and updates including on 7 march.

  • This location was not on any tree planting lists and was to be referred to the Highways Department for the tree pit to be filled in. What has changed?

  • Thank you for the comment, the tree pit is an asset to be used and not filled in. This should never have been referred to Highways to be filled in, the tree pit is down to be planted and not filled in.

  • What about the fact that the previous tree in this pit caused subsidence to 65 Groveland Road requiring the council to prune it annually and meaning that the elderly owner-occupier of 65 Groveland Road has to pay a higher buildings insurance premium in perpetuity and is therefore understandably distressed at the prospect of another tree being planted in this location? Given these facts and the additional facts that this location was not on any planting lists and that a tree in this location is simply not required for greenery in the area, I am utterly amazed at this inexplicable and still unexplained reversal of the decision to refer it to the Highways Department to be filled in. Please advise how I proceed to escalate this matter.

  • This tree pit will not be used and highways will fill this tree pit in. I will ask Highways to make this a urgent matter and get this completed as soon as possible. Due to the issue of subsidence, no further trees will be planted outside 65 Groveland road.

  • This tree pit has still not been filled in, although it was made an “urgent matter” on 25 March 2024. Please expedite as it remains a cause of anxiety to the elderly owner-occupier of 65 Groveland Road.

  • No action has been taken and no updates have been posted since my update of Monday 22 July 2024. It has now been almost 7 months since I was advised that the Highways Department would be asked to fill in the empty tree pit in front of 65 Groveland Road, which is almost 7 months more anxiety, stress and distress for the elderly owner-occupier of 65 Groveland Road. I will have no option but to escalate this matter if it is not expedited by Friday 9 August 2024.
