The Lime trees require their basal growth cutting back along Osgood Avenue.

Reported via mobile in the Tree Requires Pruning category anonymously at 10:24, Fri 21 June 2024

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6136148.

The Lime trees require their annual basal growth cutting back along Osgood Avenue as becoming very dangerous as causing difficulty in seeing up and down the road when reversing out of drive. Also covering pavement which causing issues when walking on the pavement causing the need to walk in the road, especially with push chairs or prams , which could lead to potential accidents happening. Thank you

  • Thank you for your enquiry. You have contacted us about Lime trees that have low branches that are obstructing the road and/or footway. Lime trees in particular are known for their vigorous growth around the base and lower part of the stem which can cause an obstruction to users of our highways. In order to address this recurring issue, the Council has a yearly pruning schedule that includes every Lime tree in the Borough. We have around 2300 Lime trees on our highways and they all require pruning every year, the low branches are removed up to a height of around 3 metres. The pruning schedule usually begins in June and continues through the Summer until all of the trees have been pruned.

The tree you have mentioned is therefore due to be pruned soon, thank you for your patience whilst we work to complete this essential pruning work and we apologise for any inconvenience caused by this issue.

To give an update, the contractor started on the programme a few weeks back and is making progress and will get to site soon.

  • Please accept our apologies. A recent site visit has identified that the removal of regrowth from a number of the Lime trees within Osgood has been poorly undertaken (not to specification). A service failure has been issued to the contractor and they are due to return to site to rectify the uncompleted works.

  • Our contractor has been notified to take the appropriate action.

  • The growth at the base of the three trees opposite my house in Osgood Avenue has just been cut back this week 19-21 November. l approached the contractor working across the road to see if he was going to cut back the tree growth on the tree at the edge of my driveway, his reply was his worksheet only referred to the three trees opposite. He then said it looks like there is new growth so it’s been cutback. I then pointed out that I had cut it back twice myself this year so that push chairs could easily pass and I could see down the road to reverse out. I have had to take up space in the garden waste bin that I am paying for to remove the cuttings twice this year. Are you considering growth removal of the remaining trees?

  • As mentioned above, the contractor has been this week and completed the work on 3 of the 6 Lime trees on Osgood Avenue. Can you confirm whether the contractor will be back to cut back and carry out removal maintenance on the remaining 3 trees ? Thank you

  • Thank you for bringing this to our attention and apologies this is taking longer than first envisaged to resolve. A site visit is organised to investigate/inspect what the contractor has rectified which you will be updated of the outcome of the visit.
