Barriers installed possibly without permission

Reported via desktop in the Obstruction to Highway category anonymously at 11:58, Sunday 28 July 2024

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6284750.

On entering Calverley Close, Beckenham, the right side of the road has had barriers installed limiting access to the close and parking on the estate by the landlord, Riverside Housing Group. Caretaker claims that permission was obtained from the Council, but public are unable to find any permissions granted for said obstruction.

These barriers are a safety issue for drivers entering and leaving Calverley Close, in addition, they are unlit and almost invisible after dark.

  • I assume from your update, the barriers are to be removed. At 14:00 on 08/08/24 they remain in situ and still causing issues for motorists entering and leaving Calverley Close.

  • Thank you for your patience whilst we resolve this matter. We have been working with the developers on Calverley Close who requested that the barriers remain in place to allow ease of access and to prevent damage to vehicles during HGV deliveries. We have agreed that the barriers can be placed on one side of the highway as long as a licence is held. This is currently in the process of being issued.
