It looks like bin collection has spilled their contents from truck
Reported via mobile in the Street Cleansing and Litter category anonymously at 12:01, Fri 2 August 2024
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6307573.
Litter scattered all the way down the Avenue, lots of it, today was bin collection day so it appears that the truck taking away litter from residents bins has spilled their contents from the truck all the way down the avenue. So much litter in a short space of time. Needs urgent cleanup

Here are some examples for you on just one part of the avenue , but there is litter like this still scattered all the way down, all still the same recycling that the recycling collection spilled weeks ago.

Thank you for your enquiry. We have investigated this report and assessed the issue is not the responsibility of Bromley Council. This could be because the location or asset is private property, an unadopted road or beyond the maintained extent of a road. We are unable to progress this report further and this report will be closed, however we have notified Veolia ( our waste contractor) to make sure, that any spillage during waste collection is removed in the future. Please note that Bromley do not hold records of private ownership but if the information has been registered, the ownership of private land may be found via a land registry search: https://www.gov.uk/ government/ organisations/ land-registry

Veolia are contracted by Bromley Council, and they are the ones that have caused this mess of litter scattered all the way down the road for months now, it is unsightly and needs fixing! Regardless of what type of road, private or otherwise, this mess is the fault and responsibility of Bromley Council to clean up!

So therefore, if you are saying the road isn't under the jurisdiction of Bromley Council (which IT IS because it is a requirement that to make a change to any trees on the road, Bromley council has to give approval - explain THIS stupidity) that it would stand to reason that there should be a discount to our council tax? So which is it? You have no jurisdiction over what happens on the road caused by YOUR contractors or you do?

Thank you for your additional comments. While the location is an unadopted road and not subject to street cleansing, we have liaised with our Waste contractor over the reported issue of spillage from the dustcart and asked them to clear any remaining litter upon the next scheduled collection.

As previously mentioned, the status of the Avenue as unadopted road is NOT relevant or applicable in this instance where the council contracted company (veolia) has themselves CAUSED the mess/litter spillage, so please stop using that as an excuse to shirk responsibilities, bromley council has an ethical moral duty to clean up its own mess created by a service it contracts and runs. Not only is it unsightly for residents, it poses a significant environmental issue for wildlife leaving plastic litter to rot for months. I am also still expecting a manager to call me as requested, to discuss the outright lies they have told regarding the multiple previous "resolutions" and closed reports I have had to reopen and chase through calls, the lies and negligence from the Council are a bigger issue now than the original litter report! Shameful

Not resolved until the spillage is actually cleaned up, until then this report should remain open and unresolved. Considering I reported all this back at the beginning of August, and have made dozens of calls, if this cleanup does not happen within a reasonable timeframe of a few weeks from now, my next step will be the Ombudsman.
