Ongoing parking obstruction
Reported via mobile in the Street Services category anonymously at 12:40, Friday 18 October 2024
Sent to Bromley Council 2 weeks, 5 days, 22 hours, 10 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 6631351.
Cones and bins being placed in the road to ‘reserve’ a parking spot outside no.14 Wordsworth Road is a long-running issue. Vehicles are also deliberately awkwardly placed either side to ensure a stretch of the road is protected for individual parking. The cones and bins went removed a while ago for a couple of days but they have been returned to their usual spot. It’s confusing for drivers to see the cones, the placing of the bins risks rubbish spilling into the street and it is thoughtless for other drivers and residents to claim so much parking space. Please could this issue be fixed for the long term?

Still no change and a very heavy bin along with cones still placed in the road reserving parking space for family member when visiting and then replaced preventing anyone else in the road from parking. We are really fed up with this continuous problem and it not being dealt with

To allow enforcement action to be taken against those responsible, we require a signed witness statement detailing the offence, i.e. when the obstructions were placed out, by whom, etc . If you are willing to provide one please email street.enforcement@bromley.gov.uk and an officer will contact you to arrange. Thank you.

Well i am surprised that this is what you excpect people to do Surely this is the councils job to monitor rather than expecting the public to do this This gives the people responsible the green light to do exactly as they please making them a law unto themselves Surley placing obsticals in the road is a danger to other road users and pedestrians wanting to cross the road Why cant the council come and remove the obstructions each time they are reported .We pay road tax council tax etc so why cant you deal with this If the ocupants in the properties deny they are doing this there should be no problem with the council removing them Should there ? I will contact other residents and make them aware along with the local MP Please reconsider your latest reply and go and move the cones and bin from the road Thank you

An officer regularly inspects and removes cones and obstructions from the location, however this is not resolving the matter as those responsible simply replace them. In order to prevent what is a criminal offence from reoccurring we require corroborative evidence that would allow enforcement action to be taken.

I am not sure when the officer attends and removes the things from the road but certainly not recently as the rubbish bin is almost impossible to move unles handled by 2 people so this has not been addresed maybe a daily visit and your own photograpic evidence is needed on instal a cctv camera on the post opposite the part of road in question Last week they had the audasity to put cones in the road outside another propery So no i do not agree that this should be marked as closed Bromley council obviously do not know how to deal with this problem With a new buisness opening in the road parkingwill increase so what happens then Could the parking officer not make notes and take pictures daily when out ticketing

Surveillance legislation prohibits the use of CCTV to monitor obstruction the highway as the offence does not meet the required custodial threshold. In terms of the enforcement action available to the Council, we can issue a Fixed Penalty Notice or prosecute, however the offence must either be witnessed taking place by an officer, or a statement provided by a third party, for such action to take place. To date no corroborative evidence has been made available.
