Road still broken up

Reported via desktop in the Road Defect category anonymously at 15:13, Thu 21 November 2024

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6768555.

Shire lane on the narrow section has broken up on both sides of the road. This has been reported many times before, going back to at least the beginning of this year. Its extremely dangerous and still not repaired. There is also a drain with a collapsed cover in this area. I gave up reporting this some time ago. Upon entering FMS website today I can’t see any reports? Well here is a new one. Again!

  • Shire lane is due to be closed for a week between 15th and 23rd of February for gas works. Are you planning to repair and re surface during this shutdown? The problem reported on the 21st November is still there and getting worse.

  • Still not fixed. And getting worse by the day. It’s a litter of broken wing mirrors where cars are colliding. This road is due a closure on the 15th Feb for gas’s works. If asked if it will be fixed during this time but have had no response.

  • Is anyone at Bromley Council remotely concerned in fixing this lethal and very long outstanding matter? I think there seems to be a major issue in actually getting the contractors on site, and why are these reports removed or marked as fixed when clearly absolutely NOTHING is being done to make Shire Lane safe?

  • Yes a pattern emerging here. You report it, they ignore it, or tell you its a duplicate and knock it off the FMS website. Obviously their auditors have not caught on yet, but our vehicles continue to get damaged, and eventually somebody will get killed. Then no doubt it will be "lessons will be learned!"

  • Waste of time reporting it on FMS. The road is a nightmare. Take your life in your own hands every trip. From the beginning of shire lane all the way through to the end is like a cart track. Holes and lumps everywhere. It’s closed for gas works next week. Great opportunity to do a proper re surface? I very much doubt it. How about a couple of width restrictions as well. Yesterday was a skip lorry v an artic and a grab lorry. Stuck there for ages whilst they battled it out. Tonight was a grab lorry going as fast as possible shovelling the traffic into the hedge. Fix my street? Don’t hold your breath….

  • Carry on reporting everybody, maybe the council will get off their collective backsides and fix it before someone is killed somewhere along the many and various dangerous places in Shire Lane! If I may paraphrase the Donald, "Fight, fight, fight!"

  • Why indeed? And still no plan from "our" council, well not that I am aware! Or surprised, sadly! Do we have to wait for a fatal RTA before "lessons are learned" and the machine springs in to action? Looks like it!

  • Looking back on my emails the problem in shire lane of the potholes was first reported on 11th March 2024. Well done Bromley. You’ve been informing your contractors for almost a year! I read that you are closing the road on the 12th to do some repairs? I’m hopeful you’ll actually do something 12 months on!

Posted anonymously at 18:35, Tuesday 4 March 2025

  • Well done Bromley. You closed the road last night to carry out repairs. You have managed to repair two holes! What about the rest? Surely that’s not the job completed? What about the rest of that patch of road. Totally hopeless. I had high hopes that after a year of waiting this issue would be finally sorted out. It’s a small improvement but not enough. Try again.
