Sink hole at side of lane ?
Reported via desktop in the Pavement Defect category anonymously at 23:02, Tuesday 7 January 2025
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6948161.
Coming up the lane, just before reaching the entrance to 'Lilleys', on the left there is a huge, open, unprotected hole bordering the tarmaced Lane. See photo. Not sure what this hole is.

Spoke to Phil Lane who lived in Chelsfield Lane for 60 years. He believes problem not caused by WW2 bomb as feared (some fell in Lillys Wood), but is likely a) Dene Hole dug years ago to extract chalk to spread on fields or b) old sewage conduit dug to connect Chelsfield village to mains.

As this has been reported as 'fixed', why are there still barriers in the road and the various road closed signs still there ?

Thank you for your further comments. The issue has reoccurred since this enquiry was closed and has been attended to for a second time by our contractors. Barriers will remain in place whilst we finalise the necessary works. Thank you

There still large barriers protecting the site which project into the lane. Last time walked past, there were exposed yellow utility pipes visible. Does not look fixed to anyone using Chelsfield Lane.

Thank you for your further comments. Our contractor is continuing to monitor this area to ensure there is no more movement before the barriers are removed. Thank you for your continued patience in the meantime.
