Reported via Android in the Pavement Defect category anonymously at 11:31, Wednesday 21 May 2025

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7599407.

A utilities cover in the pavement in Belvedere Road near the corner of Hamlet Road has been totally destroyed by a heavy lorry. They've covered it with a plywood board which in itself is a hazard to pedestrians.

  • No sign of Virgin Media although I'm not sure they know what urgent means. I've added a cone but the plywood remains a hazard to pedestrians, whoever is responsible for dealing with the broken cover.

  • I have just spoken to a Virgin Media chap who was working on a nearby installation and he confirmed the damaged cover's owner is BT not Virgin Media. Would you now contact them as the lump of plywood has been covering the hole for nearly two weeks.

  • Reported directly to Openreach/BT in the absence of any updates from Bromley Council

  • BT can only replace their cover. The photo is a temporary make safe by them until replacement has been carried out.

  • Please read what's already been said before leaving incorrect information. As previously notified the plywood was placed there by the driver of the vehicle that damaged the cover and is itself a hazard for pedestrians. As has also been said, VM never attended as requested by Bromley and BT/Openreach say they will attend this afternoon only after I contacted them, not Bromley.

  • Openreach attended within a couple of hours and have erected safety fencing around the collapsed manhole cover.

  • British Telecom have taken over responsibility for this site. Bromley Council can not repair utility sevices.
