The land the tree is on is owned by the GLC - now Bromley Borough Council

Reported via mobile in the Tree Requires Pruning category anonymously at 19:38, Sat 5 July 2025

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7814244.

I had reported this problem with reference no. 7790187. I was sent a no-reply closure letter erroneously informing me that the land the tree in question is on, belongs to Network Rail and the issue has been forwarded to them. The land is not owned by Network Rail but owned by the GLC now responsibility of Bromley Borough Council (see title document below) and clearly shown on the plan. Please could you be very kind and revisit the issue so this tree can be pruned and the fly tipping at the bottom of the green removed. With many thanks. • Thank you for your enquiry. For us to investigate effectively and efficiently we require precise locations which for 7790187 it was presumed the customer was referring to the verge on the opposite side of the road. With regard to this enquiry; works are raised to cut back the tree from street furniture and the enquiry has been referred to Idverde to investigate the brambles which as a GM feature is handled separately by the Grounds Maintenance team. FMS is designed to be a quick fix for single issues as not to over complicate the system, please could you report the fly-tipping separately so that this can be investigated by Veola.

  • Dear Team, I should just like to thank everyone involved at the Council for dealing with my report so promptly. As I am typing this, the contractor is getting on with it and has now left. Not sure if they are returning to finish the job. The issue is so far partially resolved. The tree trunk of the third tree, which was my main concern has not been pruned around it sufficiently so in two weeks’ time, the brambles will all be back. The team from Veola, who were meant to clear the dumped vegetation closed my report saying ‘fixed’ but it appears they were unable to clear it as it’s still totally overgrown with brambles not strimmed away , so it remains the eyesore as was. I would like to say that I am very grateful for all that you do at your end. It must cost quite a bit to have the contractor do the work so it should be done satisfactorily. I am including 2 photos. One of the overgrown vegetation, on drive to Station cottages, which cannot presumably be cleared by Veola until all overgrowth has been removed and the second image is the front view from Station Approach of the overgrown dumped vegetation and it also shows the overgrowth on the right still surrounding the tree trunk. I do realise that it is a huge amount of overgrowth but that is, of course, precisely the issue. I only live a stone’s throw away and am more than happy to point to the problem in person. With many thanks for your continued support.

  • Thank you for your comments. The works to cut back the tree from the column have now been satisfactorily completed. Please note that as outlined in our Tree Management Strategy (tree-management-strategy-2023-to-2027 (bromley.gov.uk) the Council will only prune trees for the following reasons: For the purposes of public safety: to ensure statutory clearance over the highway, footway, cycle lanes and public rights of way. To abate an actionable nuisance: where trees come in to conflict with buildings. To mitigate the risk of building subsidence: where risk trees have been identified on shrinkable clay soil and been included in the Borough’s Insurance Mitigation Pruning . Where remedial works are advantageous to the tree or tree stock and are in accordance with good arboricultural practice. Tree's are often left in their natural form and intervene only if they are posing/causing obstructions. In this instance the tree has been left in its natural form as provides valuable habitat and food source for wildlife. Your comments relating to brambles has been forwarded to the grounds maintenance team to investigate and respond.
