Damaged Traffic Island High Street Penge preventing safe crossing of road for pedestrians
Reported via desktop in the Road Defect category anonymously at 17:07, Wednesday 18 February 2026
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8949632.
Damaged Traffic Island Crystal Palace Park Road/ High Street Penge due to speeding driver crashing into it, preventing safe crossing of road for pedestrians.
For at least 3 months the traffic island has been wrecked by a speeding driver, who has crashed into it, and has rendered the crossing unusable.
This crossing is important for access to and from Penge West station and is required for anyone wishing to transfer between Penge East and Penge West stations.
I would like to raise the problem of speeding on this road on the southbound lane, since I can recall this exact same issue occurring at least three times in the past few years, with dangerous drivers speeding down the hill and crashing into the concrete traffic island.

This report has been referred to our Traffic Management Team who are responsible for the way traffic is managed on Bromley's roads; including, but not limited to, implementing new road markings and signage in relation to road safety and parking; walking and cycling improvements, including identifying locations for new cycle racks and installing Vehicle Activated speed signs - however, please note that responsibility for enforcing speed limits rests with the Police.
Where requests are made for changes, our Traffic Management Team will consider all requests but often there is a need for a full investigation, planning and consultation within the local area particularly around proposed new traffic schemes, and any considerations must be balanced with borough-wide priorities. This report is now closed on FixMyStreet and our Traffic Management Team will consider this matter.State changed to: Internal referral
