Overgrown hedge obstructing pavement and narrowing walkway

Reported via Android in the Overhanging Vegetation from private land category anonymously at 14:49, Saturday 18 April 2026

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9315003.

The hedge is severely overgrown and blocking a large part of the pavement, creating a safety hazard. Pedestrians are forced to walk closer to the road, which is particularly dangerous given passing traffic. Immediate trimming is required to restore safe access.

  • Further update to FixMyStreet reference 9315003: More than 28 days have now passed since Bromley Council advised that the responsible party had been notified and that enforcement action could be considered if the obstruction was not removed. Unfortunately, no remedial work appears to have been carried out. The hedge has continued to grow and now obstructs an even greater proportion of the pavement. In places, the footway is almost completely blocked, forcing pedestrians to step into the carriageway to pass. updated photograph showing the current condition has been attached. Please could the Council revisit this matter and advise what enforcement action will now be taken to ensure the public footpath is restored to a safe and usable condition. Thank you.

  • Further update to FixMyStreet reference 9315003.

This issue was originally reported on 18 April 2026. Bromley Council subsequently advised that the responsible party had been notified and that further enforcement action could be taken if the obstruction was not removed within 28 days.

The compliance period has long since expired. A further update was provided with recent photographs, however no response has been received and the obstruction remains.

The hedge continues to encroach onto the public footway and now severely restricts pedestrian access. In places, pedestrians are forced to move towards the carriageway in order to pass safely.

Given the length of time that has elapsed since the original report, please could the Council provide an update on what enforcement action has been taken, or is planned, to resolve this matter.
